What is Invisalign?
Invisalign is a clear treatment alternative to braces. This removable orthodontic treatment uses a series of clear plastic 'trays' or 'aligners' to gradually shift teeth into their desired positions. We will create a personalized treatment plan to meet your needs, and then provide you with a series of precisely calibrated aligners to help you achieve your smile goals.
Throughout your treatment, Dr. Nick Seddon and the team at Oceanfront Dental will monitor your progress to ensure that things stay on track, and to make any adjustments that might be necessary along the way.
-
How does Invisalign work?
Digital impressions of your mouth will be made using our iTero intraoral scanner, then a computer simulation will be used to show you the projected progression of your smile as treatment goes forward. This computer simulation allows you to see what your smile may look like at the end of your treatment.
A series of clear, plastic aligners will be used to gradually shift your teeth into their final positions. Every week or two, depending on your personalized plan, you will switch to the next set of aligners in your series, until the desired results have been achieved.
-
How long do you wear Invisalign each day?
For Invisalign clear plastic aligners to be effective, they must be worn for a minimum of 22 hours every day. Remove them only when eating, brushing, and flossing.
-
How long does Invisalign treatment take?
Invisalign treatment time varies. It depends on the patient's unique needs and can range from 3 to 24 months. Most cases, however, take about 1 year to treat, depending on the amount of movement necessary.
-
Is invisalign painful?
There may be slight pain and discomfort when you first start wearing your clear aligners. However, Invisalign does not have brackets and wires to irritate the delicate tissues inside of your mouth. Any discomfort you experience will typically subside as you become accustomed to your new aligners.
Try to keep in mind that slight pain is normal and is a sign that your treatment is working. If you experience higher levels of discomfort, speak to your dentist.
-
How much does Invisalign cost?
Cost will depend on the severity of your case and the duration of your treatment. For instance, the more severe the malocclusion, the more aligners you'll need and the more your treatment will cost.
In many cases, the cost of Invisalign is comparable to that of traditional orthodontic treatment (braces).
