Dental Laser, Vancouver Dentist

A New Way to Clean Teeth

At Oceanfront Dental, we pride ourselves on the technology we have in the office. Our dentists use a portable diode laser for cosmetic, surgical, and prosthodontic procedures. It should provide minimal discomfort and swelling. We also use an Erbium Yag laser for various gum treatments to disinfect pockets and bring your tissues back to health.

Laser dentistry is a new way to clean your smile. And at our dental clinic in downtown Vancouver, you can have a happy and healthy smile using laser treatment for teeth cleaning. A dental laser can also help treat gingivitis and periodontal disease.

Compared to traditional dental drills, lasers for teeth cleaning can cause less pain and may reduce the need for anesthetic. Dental lasers can also help reduce dental anxiety and fear.

Finally, laser dentistry can also help minimize swelling and bleeding and can help preserve the structure of the tooth.

Uses for Dental Lasers

Laser dentistry can also be also used for:

  • Tooth Decay: Dentists can use lasers to remove tooth decay and to prepare the enamel for filling.
  • Gum Disease: Lasers can reshape your gums and remove bacteria during a root canal.
  • Lesion Removal & Biopsy: Dental lasers can also remove tissues for biopsies—the tissue is removed so that it can be checked for cancer. Lasers can also relieve canker sore pain and remove mouth lesions.

Treating Gum Disease

Oceanfront Dental may recommend laser dentistry if you are in the early stages of gum disease. This requires deep cleaning of the four quadrants in your mouth.

After numbing your gums, your dentist will clean the roots of the teeth just below the gum line to remove plaque and tartar. This is called Root planing and scaling. Laser treatment for teeth cleaning can also help reduce the risk of gingivitis and the more serious periodontal disease.

Root planing and scaling stop infections from progressing. Laser treatment, however, for teeth cleaning cannot reverse bone or collagen loss. Bacteria can also still collect, allowing germs and bacteria to attack again. If you have serious periodontal disease, you may need laser gum surgery to treat it.
